Charlton boss Lee Bowyer: I’ll be going back to Roland Duchatelet for a ‘more normal’ contract offer
Charlton boss Lee Bowyer says he’ll be going back to Roland Duchatelet and asking for a “normal” contract offer.
The Addicks manager’s current deal is up at the end of this season and he was emailed an offer from the Belgian tycoon earlier this week, but admitted on Thursday that he didn’t understand what he was presented with.
Bowyer has since talked things through with non-executive chairman Richard Murray, who has told the Addicks chief that he ought to go back to Duchatelet for some clarification.

“I spoke to Richard and his advice was to maybe just see if there was something a bit more normal,” said Bowyer after his side’s 2-0 win at Plymouth Argyle.
“And then we’ll start negotiating and talking properly. It’ll be fine. There’s a long way to go. The most important thing for me is that we keep winning games. Nothing is going to change there. I’m loving my time here.
“I’m going to go back to them and asking for just a normal offer. It’s different to what I’ve seen before. At least we’ve got the ball rolling there, it’s a good start. I’m sure we’ll get there in the end.”
Nothing Roland does is ‘normal!’ Good luck Lee.
Why shouldn’t he expect anything less. He’s made good choices, and got excellent results.
In the rest of the world, results earn rewards and respect – yet again their apparent lack from Mr Duchatelet raises questions over his objectives and his fitness to own and manage this “business”. I am disappointed the EFL seem ignorant of this or powerless to do anything about it. We have a really good team this year, weakened at New Year, but Lee Bowyer has got more out of them than any manager we have had for years. Give him a deal, a good deal ….
