Charlton boss Lee Bowyer says his side got what they deserved after falling to defeat at Fleetwood Town

Lee Bowyer had no complaints after his side came away empty-handed from their game at Fleetwood Town.

Ched Evans’ goal midway through the second-period was enough for the hosts to edge out a lacklustre Addicks side.

The misery was compounded as defender Patrick Bauer was dismissed after being shown a second yellow card two minutes from time.

“We got what we deserved, and that’s nothing,” admitted Bowyer.

“We leave disappointed and with no points. We didn’t deserve it. We didn’t deserve to win the game. We carried too many people today. That’s what I’ve just told them and that’s the truth.

“We didn’t look good defensively, we didn’t look good attacking. Everything that’s been good this season just wasn’t there today. I can’t put my finger on it. It’s so frustrating because it’s three points dropped.

“Before we know it, we’ll be in single figures of games left,” he added, as his side dropped a place to fifth in the League One table.

“We can’t afford to drop points like that. We’ll have to dust ourselves off, work hard in training and make sure it doesn’t happen again. I’m disappointed because I don’t see that very often from them. I didn’t go mad because I know it hurts them as much as it hurts me.”

The Addicks had to do without both of their lethal strike-duo on the Fylde Coast. Lyle Taylor is still serving a suspension, whilst Karlan Grant was sold to Huddersfield Town during the week.

But Bowyer said their absences didn’t explain for the disjointed performance all over the park.

“Even defensively we didn’t look good,” he said.

“We kept dropping deep. Then they scored from six or seven yards out with no one near him. It doesn’t make sense to me. We were bad from start to finish and it’s not like us.

“We’ve been good all season but chucked the odd bad one in. This is one of the bad ones. We’ve got to move on as quickly as possible, and we will.”

Bowyer also had no qualms with Bauer’s sending-off, although joked that referee Tony Harrington could have shown some leniency after the game official failed to give Blackpool’s Curtis Tilt a second yellow card for a similar foul when the Addicks visited Bloomfield Road in December.

“Second yellow, I thought it was soft,” explained Bowyer.

“It’s funny, the ref, I said he could have let that one go after what happened in Blackpool but he said two wrongs don’t make a right and I agree. It was a second yellow. He got rolled and pulled him back. So, it’s a second yellow card.”
