Charlton boss on Leyton Orient League One play-off six-pointer: ‘It’s a wonderful situation to be in’

Nathan Jones is relishing Charlton Athletic’s trip to Leyton Orient next weekend in a fixture that is set to hold significance in the League One play-off race.

The Addicks are only outside the top six on goal difference after today’s 3-0 victory over Exeter this afternoon.

Orient are sixth but lost 2-1 at Bolton Wanderers today.

Just five points separates third-placed Wrexham and Bolton, who are eighth.

The stakes are set to be high in east London but that is exactly how Charlton manager Jones likes it.

“It’s a wonderful position to be in because, with great respect, a year ago we were coming here and we were playing against Barnsley and things like that where we had to get points to make sure we stayed in the league,” said the Welshman.

“Now, a year later, we have an opportunity to exit the league – but in the right way. So it shows we’ve come a long, long way.

“I want the fans to get excited. I want the club to get excited but in-house we have to concentrate and we have to be at it – game in, and game out. That’s what we’re trying to do.

“We’re in a good position. We have a game in hand on a lot of people, we’re in good form. We just have to concentrate on us and that’s all I’m worried about.

“I don’t look at anyone else, it’s us. We’ve got a points total – we have to get to that points total. If we do our job then that’s all I can concern with.

“We might slip up, we might have an even better run and exceed that. We know in-house (what the target is) and all we can do is keep trying to win the game that’s in front of us.”
