Charlton boss on loan capture of Coventry defender Kane

Dean Holden reckons Todd Kane will have “a point to prove” after making a loan switch to Charlton Athletic from Coventry City.

The full-back is out of contract at the end of the season.

Kane has struggled for game time with the Sky Blues in the current campaign and had been told to train with the development squad at the start of pre-season.

Charlton manager Holden told the South London Press: “He was very highly thought of as a winger at Chelsea [as a youngster]. He’s played the majority of his career as a full-back and as a wing-back. He’s very effective with the ball at his feet – he’s a technician and his set-piece delivery as well is outstanding.

“He’s someone proven at Championship level – that’s the type we want to bring to Charlton Athletic.

“Again, a short-term deal until the end of the season. He’s not played as many games as he’d have liked at Coventry after leaving QPR, so he has got a real point to prove as well.

“He’s been on the phone non-stop. Any player, I need to speak to them and make sure they are the right personality – not only to play for us but handle the pressure of playing at The Valley in front of our own supporters, the expectation that is put upon us.

“Around the training ground we have got a lot of young players. Todd is somebody, having done a lot of research, who will be demanding and push the level of training. He improves the squad, again, he’s a very, very good player.

“The key thing when you talk to these two players [Kane and Bonne] is how keen they are to come to Charlton Athletic. There are players I’ve spoken to in the last week or so who we’ve had good recommendations on – I’ve watched them and liked them technically – but I’ve spoken to them and there’s something I’m not sure about them coming to this club.

“They’ve got to be the right fit as well as the right quality of the player.”
