Charlton centre-half Tom Lockyer has his say on bizarre incident with Hal Robson-Kanu in draw with West Brom

Charlton defender Tom Lockyer was baffled that he received a yellow card for his part in an unusual incident during the 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
The Welsh international appeared to be held by fellow countryman Hal Robson-Kanu following a challenge just inside the Addicks half – but referee Jarred Gillett allowed play to continue despite the Charlton man being prevented from returning to the back-line.
The Baggies were allowed to play on and may well have scored had Matheus Pereira’s shot not taken a deflection that sent it wide.
The confuse matters further, both Lockyer and Robson-Kanu were booked for their part in the unsightly episode.
“I’ve pinched the ball off him and we’ve landed on the floor,” explained Lockyer, when asked for his view on the incident.
“He’s holding my arm down so I’ve rolled around and he’s holding me down. He’s tried to get me in a headlock so I’ve ducked under it and he’s holding my arms and I’m holding his arms. No one wants to let go then. I don’t mind it. I saw him at the end of the game and said ‘good battle all game.’ He didn’t mind it. We move on.
“I thought it was a foul because he held me down first. I just wanted to get up and play on after the tackle. I was more annoyed with the fourth official. When the ref plays on he has to go and follow the ball but the fourth official is stood on the halfway line. What’s he doing? He’s got to be looking straight at it and if he is there’s no way I’m getting booked for what happened.”
