Charlton defender Chris Gunter named in Wales’ squad for World Cup qualifiers

BY RICHARD CAWLEY & MAX HALL

Charlton’s Chris Gunter will be hoping to add to his record 104 cap haul for Wales when they play World Cup qualifiers at the start of next month.

The 32-year-old defender has made seven League One starts for the Addicks this season but has not featured in the matchday squad for the last two fixtures against Gillingham and Portsmouth.

Wales face the Czech Republic in Prague on Friday, October 8, and then take on Estonia in Tallinn three days later.

Gunter has scored one goal in 44 appearances for Charlton since signing on a free transfer in October 2020 following his release by Reading.
