Charlton’s Jason Pearce hopes that his defensive partner Patrick Bauer will stay at The Valley.
German centre-half Bauer had been the subject of interest from Blackburn Rovers, with an unsuccessful bid being tabled by the Championship outfit last month.
Pearce built a formidable partnership in the heart of the Addicks defence with Bauer towards the end of last season, conceding just five goals in the final ten league games as the South Londoners surged towards a top six finish – a combination that Pearce wants to build upon in the upcoming campaign.
“There’s been interest in Pat and rightly so,” explained Pearce.
“He’ s a very good player and I enjoy playing with him. Personally, I’d love him to stay. Hopefully he will do now, it’s getting closer to the end of the window.
“Every day that goes by I’m hoping he’s staying. I enjoyed the first game back with me and him together (in the 2-0 friendly win at Crawley Town) and enjoy playing with him. Hopefully he does as well. It was nice to get another clean sheet.”
The transfer window closes for permanent transfers between EFL clubs at 5pm on 9thAugust – although loan deals will be permitted until the end of the month.
