Charlton defender nominated for August League One Player of the Month – and is up against Birmingham striker Alfie May

Charlton Athletic defender Lloyd Jones has been nominated for August’s League One Player of the Month.

Cenret-back Jones scored the only goal in the 1-0 opening-day win at Wigan, steering home an effort late on.

Nathan Jones’ side also kept three clean sheets in the opening month of the 2024-25 campaign, with Jones playing his part in keeping the goals out against Wigan, Leyton Orient and Bolton.

Charlton ended the month with a 2-0 defeat at Reading.

Jones is up against former Addicks striker Alfie May, who left in the summer to join big spenders Birmingham City.

May has netted four goals and an assist in the opening four games.

Barnsley midfielder Adam Phillips, who has scored three goals and picked up an assist in four games, has also been nominated for the award.

Stockport County forward Louie Barry is also aomgst the nominations.

The Aston Villa loanee has three goals to his name already.

The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.

The winner will be announced on Friday.
