Charlton don’t need player outgoings before they can make transfer window signings
Nathan Jones says that Charlton Athletic’s incoming transfer window business does not depends on outgoings first.
The Addicks manager has made it clear on more than one occasions that the current period of trading will not be hectic in terms of signings after a hefty amount of arrivals a year ago and also in the summer.
But Charlton have struggled to trim the size of their squad, with the reality being that many of the surplus playing personnel will be on deals that other clubs will struggle to match, let alone better.
“If we find the right player there is no obligation (to have moved players out first),” Jones told the South London Press. “But the owners have been fantastic backing us and we want to make sure the football club is run right.
“For the good of the squad and the players, we will try and move a few out. We have got slightly too big a squad at the moment and some of that is historical.
“One, maybe two players, that we want to bring in that we feel are key and will give us attacking impetus.”
The Addicks had some good news this week with Kayne Ramsay back on the training pitch.
The right-sided defender has been out with a knee problem.
“We want our good players back in and Kayne is a good player,” said Jones. “It has been a tough road for him. When he came in he got injured in his first game and then came back and showed what he can do. He was excellent in pre-season and started the season wonderfully. He just had one of those innocuous injuries that was relatively serious.
“By the end of the month hopefully we will have him back firing and in contention.”
