Michal Zyro’s goal celebration in Charlton Athletic’s 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle was to mark a new arrival to his family this summer.

The on-loan Wolves attacker headed home the second goal at The Valley and celebrated by tucking the ball under his shirt and sucking his thumb.

When asked about the way he marked hitting the back of the net – his first in SE7 – he said: “Yeah [it was to signal becoming a dad]. In the middle of June, so soon. It is the first time [I have done the celebration] because I would like to do it at home, because my wife is always in the stands. It was really nice to have the chance to do it.

“You always want to get three points and now we need to keep going, play every game for three points.

“We needed to bounce back from out not good moments. It was a big, important game for us because we were not in a good position. I just play game, by game by game – not think about the play-offs or how many points we need to get.”

Zyro signed in January but has struggled for regular starts under previous boss Karl Robinson. But caretaker boss Lee Bowyer paired him with Nicky Ajose at the weekend.

“Of course every player wants to play but I expect not to play 90 minutes from the first game, because I did not play for a long time before. I expect a chance for 20 or 30 minutes first, growing game by game. Now it is a good time, my second goal here. I need to keep my health and be ready for Friday.”
