Charlton head to League Two Newport in EFL Cup first round draw

Charlton Athletic will travel to Newport County for their first round draw of the 2023-24 EFL Cup campaign.

Charlton made it all the way to the quarter-finals of the competition last season, knocking out QPR, Walsall, Stevenage and Brighton to head to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side, who went on to win the competition, beat Dean Holden’s Addicks 3-0.

First round ties will be contested during the week commencing Monday, August 7.

Charlton finished 10th in the League One table last year. Newport finished 15th in the division below.

Newport knocked out Luton and Portsmouth last season. But they were thumped 3-0 by Leicester in the third round of the competition.
