Charlton keeper Ben Amos clinches move to Wigan Athletic

Ben Amos is set to be confirmed as a Wigan Athletic player – with Charlton hopeful they have a quality replacement lined up.

The Addicks had offered the 31-year-old goalkeeper a new contract.

But Amos, who is a free agent on July 1, has agreed to join the Latics.

The former Manchester United and Bolton stopper has had two spells with the Addicks. Initially he signed on loan from Wanderers and was an ever-present in the league in their 2017-18 season.

He returned on a permanent basis in the summer of 2019 but was back-up to Dillon Phillips. Amos again did not miss a minute in Charlton’s 2020-21 campaign after Phillips was sold to Cardiff.

Ipswich Town had also been interested in the Addicks number one.

Charlton are keen on loaning out Ashley Maynard-Brewer to gain first-team experience. The highly-rated Australian could be in his country’s squad for the Tokyo Olympics. The football tournament is set to be played between July 22 and August 7.
