Charlton midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey provides update on his rehab
Jake Forster-Caskey is set to step up his training provided he gets the all-clear from his specialist at the start of next month.
The midfielder, who was voted Charlton’s Player of the Year last season, sustained anterior cruciate knee ligament damage against Lincoln City in May.
Forster-Caskey, 27, had been due to be out of contract but the Addicks extended his stay until June with the option of a further 12 months.
The former Brighton and MK player has recently started training outside at Sparrows Lane.
“It’s just straight-line running,” Forster-Caskey told Charlton TV. “I haven’t got long until I see the surgeon and he hopefully signs me off to start doing more.
“One minute you’re walking, the next minute you’re doing more in the gym and the next minute you’re running. I’ve worked really hard to even get to that point.
“I’ve still got a long way to go in terms of finding my feet and getting game-ready. But it is a big milestone after an ACL just being out on the grass.
“I’m on schedule but I take it day by day.”
Forster-Caskey did the same injury to his other knee just before the start of the 2018-19 season.
“I did one when I had a year left [on my contract] and I did one when I had a couple of weeks left – my timing hasn’t been great,” said the former England U21 international. “The club has been brilliant and the manager has been first-class with me.
“He talks to me all the time and he has been through some surgeries himself,”
