Charlton set to find out EFL Cup quarter-final opponent tonight

Charlton Athletic will find out their EFL Cup quarter-final opponent this evening after they knocked out Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on penalties at The Valley on Wednesday night.

New boss Dean Holden watched on from the stands as the Addicks won 4-3 on penalties, with defender Sam Lavelle scoring the winning spot-kick to book Charlton’s place in the quarter-final spots for the first time since 2006.

Charlton, currently 18th in League One and without a win in their last five games in the third divison, are the only non-Premier League side to reach this stage of the competition. Southampton, Wolves, Newcastle, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, and one of Liverpool or Manchester City will be involved in the draw.

The draw will take place live on Sky Sports following the conclusion of Manchester City v Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday, 22 December 2022.

Joining host Mark Chapman to make the draw will be former Manchester City and Newcastle shot-stopper, Shay Given, as well as the Lionesses Euro 2022 winning goalkeeper Mary Earps.

Round four ties get underway this evening (Tuesday, 20 December), with eight teams in action, before the first of the televised fixtures takes place on Wednesday, 21 December, where Sky Bet Championship leaders Burnley will face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

EFL Cup quarter-final fixtures will take place in the week commencing 9 January, with two matches to be confirmed for live broadcast on Sky Sports.
