Charlton sign Sheffield Wednesday midfielder on loan
Charlton Athletic have made Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson their first signing of the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old Londoner, from Camden, is out of contract at the end of the season.
Bakinson is not eligible for tomorrow’s fixture at Port Vale despite the Addicks’ attempts to get all the paperwork resolved before the deadline.
He started on the books of Luton Town before penning a long-term deal at Bristol City in 2017. He scored five goals in 54 matches for them.
Bakinson featured 42 times for the Owls and was part of their squad which won promotion from League One last season.
Charlton head coach Michael Appleton told the club’s website: “Tyreeq is six foot three and he gives us a physicality in midfield. He can play as a holding midfielder or a box-to-box midfielder because he’s got the ability to get up and down the pitch when he wants and needs to. He can do that from a physical point of view, but he’s also got the discipline to sit in there when required.
“Tyreeq has played at big clubs has been promoted twice, so he brings a lot of experience to the group as well.”
