Charlton striker: Our equaliser was like sticking two fingers up to Luton fans

Lyle Taylor reckons Charlton Athletic’s players had the last laugh on Saturday – with Chris Solly’s late goal the perfect response to time-wasting by Luton fans.
The Addicks club captain produced an equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
And striker Taylor told Charlton Live: “It was a little bit strange with anyone who has seen the pictures or video – you can see we are celebrating in front of the Luton fans. Anyone not there will think that doesn’t sound right.
“But if you were there, you would understand why. The Luton fans were playing volleyball when the ball went into the crowd along with hiding the ball from the players and the ref.
“George Lapslie ended up getting booked because he jumped over to get the ball and their fans wrestled the ball off him and threw it behind him.
“So it [the celebration] was almost sticking two fingers up to them.
“The way the fans conduct themselves is important, it’s as important as what the players do. What they did was a disgrace. We were able to say: ‘Unlucky, you tried really hard to do us over but you couldn’t do it’.”
The Addicks are unbeaten in six League One games and second in the form table – but only off top spot due to Doncaster’s better goal difference over that period.
“If you can keep grinding out draws and wins them psychologically it is so big for us,” said Taylor. “We are six unbeaten – four wins and two draws.
“The trick is to go seven, eight, nine or 10 games without a loss and then go again if you do lose one. That makes a big difference, it creates positivity and creates an atmosphere you want to be around.”
I suppose Charlton fans or ballboys never hold on to the ball then?
The Charlton keeper was timewasting after an hour when they were 1-0 up.

A fan took the ball from our player and threw the ball back into the crowd. Quite unusual I would have thought.
The ref also joined in the fun by booking the player.
As a Luton Town fan at the game I say fair play. Why can’t players give it back to fans. Fans give banter/heckles (abuse is the wrong word as there are certain limits which shouldn’t be crossed.)
The crowd at Luton likes to dish it out to away teams and they should be able to give it back when they score.
Also it was good to have decent away fans making it a proper atmosphere rather than these souless out of town grounds
Oh yea a soft pen and a last minute scramble, plus Charlton fans chucking coins and full beer bottles at us is ok. I know what is a ‘disgrace’ and keeping the ball for 10 secs is hardly time wasting, ask your keeper and defender kicking the ball away at every opportunity.
