Charlton striker shortlisted for League One Player of the Month for October
Charlton Athletic striker Alfie May has been shortlisted for October’s League One Player of the Month.
The summer signing from Cheltenham Town has scored 11 goals in the campaign with seven of them coming in six matches last month.
May is up against Carlisle United winger Jordan Gibson, Wycombe centre-back Luke Leahy and Portsmouth defender Conor Shaughnessy.
The winner will be announced on Friday morning.
May told our paper shortly after signing for the Addicks that he wanted to break the 20-goal barrier after notching 22 in his last season at Cheltenham.
“I want to go and hit 20-plus again,” May told the South London Press. “The pressure is probably on me now to do that. I know strikers can have bad spells. But the best thing I’ve done in the last two years – it probably sounds a bit big-headed or people might take it a little different – is that I walk on to that pitch and I say to myself that I want to be the best player on there that day.
“If I’m not, then my mindset is that I am going to be the best player in the next game.”
