Charlton suffer setback as Lyle Taylor red card appeal rejected

Lyle Taylor will miss Charlton Athletic’s trip to Peterborough United on Saturday after the FA rejected an appeal to overturn his red card at the weekend.

The Addicks’ top-scorer was shown a straight red card along with Acrington goalkeeper Jonny Maxted.

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer was confident that the League One promotion chasers would be successful in getting the verdict overturned.

“From the evidence adduced, the members ruled that it was not a case of wrongful dismissal and Lyle will have to serve an immediate three-match ban,” said a statement on the Addicks official club website.

It means Taylor will not be available for the trip to the Posh, the away game at Fleetwood Town and the home match against Southend United.

Taylor tweeted: “I’d like to apologise for the actions that resulted in my sending off on Saturday. The club have appealed and failed for reasons the FA have not explained. I apologise to my teammates, the manager, the staff and the fans for letting them down. I’m sorry.”
