Charlton won’t be bringing free agent striker in – deadline for deals looms
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Lee Bowyer has ruled out another free agent striker being signed – admitting that any options would not be fit even if owner Roland Duchatelet was to U-turn and sanction a deal.
The Addicks look almost certain to bag a League One play-off spot.
But Duchatelet has dealt their prospects a blow at the end of January by not allowing an extra striker to come in and replace Karlan Grant.
Bowyer had also looked in the unattached market, only to reveal recently that Duchatelet was happy with their frontline options.
Asked if that situation could change, Bowyer said: “I don’t think the owner will allow us and, to be fair, the ones being chucked forward to us haven’t played any football.
“There’s one just come back from America, but I still can’t see him making a difference to us. There’s no point us just bringing someone in for the sake of it.
“I just hope we don’t get injuries in certain positions.”
