Charlton’s final action in January transfer window sees double loan exit as winger deal fails to be completed
AFC Wimbledon have signed Charlton Athletic winger Diallang Jaiyesimi on loan.
The Addicks final business of the transfer window saw them agree two temporary outgoing deals with centre-back Sam Lavelle becoming their third player in this window to hook up with Burton Albion.
But Charlton’s move for Wigan winger Gwion Edwards failed to reach fruition.
Burton’s move for Lavelle meant that Terell Thomas, who had been a target for Forest Green Rovers, is staying in SE7. Charlton wanted to make sure they were covered for central defensive options.
“We’ve been looking to strengthen that area of the pitch and we’re really happy to get it done so late on,” said Burton manager Dino Maamria.
“With Lavelle, we’ve brought legs, youth and experience at the same time, as he’s played plenty of League One and Two games.”
Lavelle added: “I’m buzzing to get this one sorted and to get it over the line in time.
“If I’m honest it’s been a mad few days with some of the options that I had, and I’m positive I’ve made the right choice.
“This was the best option for me after speaking to the gaffer this afternoon and the idea of helping burton stay in the division was a challenge that excited me.”

Well, well, as I said yesterday, why Sam Lavelle would have to be shipped out was a surprise, along with other ‘contract’ players. Charlton have not gained in numbers or in strength, as two of the incomers are not match fit. We cannot say that Kane is an addition, as he is now injured and for how long remains to be seen. I said yesterday, that I hoped I would have egg on my face and we would get another striker late on, but unfortunately, I have not got egg on my face, as another striker did not materialise and lo and behold, we missed out on the Wigan guy as well. It appears that Charlton were too late getting it over the line – again. I repeat from yesterday, what have messrs Gallen and co been doing ? We all know it is not easy in the transfer market, but the fans were promised action in the ‘window’, Charlton even brought in guys on short term contracts to assist Gallen. I do not consider this ‘window’ a success, far from it in my humble opinion.
Also, something is definitely afoot at The Valley, but whether it is good or bad , remains to be seen. Yet again, the heartbeat of the club – the fans – are being left in the dark, but the sooner we find out, the better for all concerned. To me, very little of the transfer ins and outs, makes sense. I’m sure I am not alone !!
