Charlton’s Lee Bowyer and Lyle Taylor both up for top Championship awards for August

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Lee Bowyer and Lyle Taylor have both been nominated for Championship awards for August.

Bowyer is up for the Manager of the Month award.

The Addicks took 14 points from their six matches during an undefeated August.

His main rival for the accolade seems to be Swansea City’s Steve Cooper, who can boast a return of 16 points – a dream start since replacing Graham Potter in the hotseat.

Leeds’ Marcelo Bielsa and Bristol City’s Lee Johnson have also been selected and had points returns of 13 and 11 respectively.

It is no surprise to see Taylor in the mix for the Championship Player of the Month honour.

The forward has scored five goals in his first six matches, plus one assist. It is his first time playing in England’s second tier. He attracted multiple bids from Brentford before the transfer window closed.

Taylor faces competition from Daniel Johnson (Preston), Mike van der Hoorn (Swansea) and Ollie Watkins (Brentford).

The winners will be announced early on Friday morning.
