Charlton’s Lee Bowyer misses out on League One Manager of the Month award

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Lee Bowyer has missed out on the League One Manager of the Month award for September.

The Charlton Athletic boss was shortlisted for the accolade but it went to Doncaster Rovers’ Grant McCann. Both teams took 13 points from their five matches in that period.

But Bowyer has revealed he did not even look at who had the strongest claim to pick up the award.

“It is not important to me,” he said. “It is the squad who are out there getting the results.

“It’s always nice to win something – but the only thing I want to win is promotion. The nomination is nice recognition for the squad that they have been doing well.”

Lewis Page is facing at least a couple of weeks out after his groin injury worsened – the left-back was taken off in Tuesday’s 5-3 loss at Scunthorpe. But Krystian Bielik (calf) trained yesterday and boosts their defensive options.
