Charlton’s unbeaten League One run came under threat from almost the start in 2-1 loss at Bolton

A couple of defensive lapses were punished as Charlton contrived a way to lose a game that nobody deserved to win.

Their four-match unbeaten run in League One looked under threat as early as the 10th minute when Akin Famewo horribly misjudged a lofted ball forward to gift Dion Charles an opener.

The South Londoners did worm their way back into the contest after the interval and drew level when subs Scott Fraser and Chuks Aneke combined to see the latter plant a firm header beyond James Trafford.  But they were made to pay for another moment of fragility when Will Aimson’s deft header from a set-play proved to be the decisive goal.

Wanderers have scored just three goals from set-pieces all season. Charlton have conceded three from dead-ball situations in their last two games.
Chances were few and far between with defences certainly on top. But Johnnie Jackson’s side aren’t the clean-sheet kings they were at the start of his reign – six shutouts from his first nine games have turned into just one in the last eight outings.

With Jayden Stockley still out and Aneke unable to go through the rigours of another 90 minutes so soon after the weekend, the visitors didn’t have the muscle to compete with Bolton’s rearguard for the first hour – especially the outstanding Ricardo Santos. Teenager Mason Burstow struggled against the  Portuguese brick wall.

New arrival Fraser made an impact when he came on and Aneke will always be a nuisance. But good bits and pieces here and there are all Charlton will have to show for this season.

STAR MAN
Chuks Aneke. The only Addicks attacker to cause Santos any kind of problem.

BEST MOMENT
Quality cross by Fraser for the goal.
