Chris Wilder enjoys Lions’ Den – It’s “real, raw – they say not very nice things about you”

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Chris Wilder revealed he relishes trips to The Den – describing the experience as “real and raw”.

His Sheffield United side moved into the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Millwall yesterday.

“I enjoyed it,” said Wilder. “I enjoyed watching my team. They played smart and we took our chances when they came along.

“I quite enjoy coming here – it’s real, it’s raw – they are at you and they say not nice things about you.

“I got sent off as a 19-year-old here, I two-footed Jimmy Carter. I’m not proud of it, it was a learning curve at the old ground.

“They always ask a question and I like that.

“Even though we both made changes they have beaten better sides than us and knocked out Premier League teams.

“You have to be right for it, you have to be up for it and you have to be at it – my players were.

“It looked pretty comfortable at the end but it was a really dangerous game for us. I’m delighted with my players in terms of their attitude.

“People will look and say: ‘They played Man City on Tuesday what are they going to be like when they turn up in South London on Saturday afternoon?’ We had everything you want from a performance today.”
