Chuks Aneke set to make return to Charlton Athletic squad – and key midfielder also fit as Lincoln exit explained
Chuks Aneke is set to return to Charlton Athletic’s squad for tomorrow night’s home game against Exeter City.
The forward has not featured this season after injuring his calf in a behind-closed-doors friendly in July.
But Aneke will be back in Ben Garner’s squad for the League One fixture against the Grecians, provided he had no complications in training today.
“Chuks has had a really good few days,” said Garner. “He trained again fully with the group that trained yesterday. That was great, not just on an individual level but he was really positive around the rest of the group and gave everyone a lift.
“It certainly gave me a lift yesterday, seeing how he trained and having another forward player to select from. All being well today, he will be in the squad tomorrow. I’m delighted to have him back.”
Charlton saw a deadline day deal collapse for QPR’s Macauley Bonne.
It has left the South London club with one senior striker in Jayden Stockley. Miles Leaburn, 18, has scored three goals in 12 League One appearances.
“It’s been a challenge because we’re limited in terms of what we can select from,” said Garner. “We’re very fortunate to have the emergence of Miles, because if he hadn’t come through in the way he has done then it would have been more of a problem. I’m really pleased with his development and how he is maturing as a player and a professional, how he is impacting games both when he is coming on and starting on Saturday.
“Having Chuks back as another senior striker with Jayden will certainly help, both with options to start games and coming off the bench and having an impact.”
George Dobson came off in the closing stages at Lincoln.
“Just a touch of cramp,” said Garner. “He covered every blade of grass on Saturday. He’s absolutely fine and will be good for tomorrow.”
