Coalville Town fans snap up tickets for FA Cup first round tie at Charlton Athletic

Coalville Town have sold at least 1,483 tickets for Saturday’s FA Cup first round tie at Charlton Athletic.

The Ravens play in the Southern Central Premier League – step three – and are fifth in the table.

They were 3-1 winners at Dunston on Saturday as they progressed in the FA Trophy with Ashley Chambers scoring twice. The striker was also on target in their 3-2 win over Notts County in their FA Cup fourth qualifying round match which set up a trip to SE7 and he has netted 15 times since joining at the start of the campaign from Buxton.

“It’s great to be at home,” Garner said shortly after the FA Cup first round draw took place.

“It’s a great draw for Coalville, an opportunity to come to a big League One club and test themselves. It’s the magic of the FA Cup.

“We give them full respect. We’ll prepare exactly the same way we do every game, because we want to get to round two and then hopefully round three – hopefully we get what we see as a big tie for us. That’s the aim.”

Charlton also faced non-league opposition in the competition last season, defeating Havant & Waterlooville 4-0 in the first round and then prevailing 2-0 at Gateshead. They were then paired with Norwich in the third round and exited after a 1-0 reverse in South London, Milot Rashica scoring the only goal.
