‘Complete and utter loss’ – Charlton boss wants answers over challenges in Bolton win

Nathan Jones believed that Bolton Wanderers should have had two players sent off in Charlton Athletic’s 2-1 win on Tuesday night.

The Addicks boss believed that referee Jacob Miles should have issued captain George Thomason and substitute Jay Matete with their marching orders at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Sunderland loanee Matete was introduced in the 82nd minute by Ian Evatt, who was sacked shortly after the game.

Karoy Anderson netted in the 86th minute to put the Addicks back ahead at 2-1.

As Jones’ side looked to run down the clock, Theirry Small looked to keep the ball in the corner but replays from the incident appear to show Matete stamp on the former Everton youngster.

“We saw it live,” said Jones.

“We knew it happened. We had video footage and saw it instantly. Then, with video footage – it’s a stamp.

“The ironic thing is that I have no idea how the referee didn’t see it when Matty Godden, who is in the exact same line eye line as him, but four yards further back.

“Unless Matty’s eyesight is considerably better than that, I could not understand.

“When the captain, Thomason, got a yellow card for a cynical pull on Tyreece Campbell then the second challenge is actually worse.

“That’s a yellow in every single football game on the planet, but somehow, the referee allowed him to get away with it.

“I don’t want to get myself into trouble, but I am at an absolute complete and utter loss how that was not a yellow card.

“That’s two red cards. I understood the frustrations of Matete late on in terms of keeping it in the corner and seeing out the game.

“For me, the other one was more important than that. That had no relevance or bearing on the game.

“The other one categorically did. We have asked for observations on both. Let’s see what comes back.”
