‘Completely false’ – Roy Hodgson hits back at claim Tyrick Mitchell is considering national team switch

Roy Hodgson believes that Tyrick Mitchell has no intention of switching international allegiances from England to Jamaica.

The defender, who has started every game in the Premier League for the Eagles this season, was absent from Gareth Southgate’s squad despite there being no natural left-back named in the 26-player roster.

Mitchell has been capped twice by England – playing in friendlies in March 2022 against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast – but he qualifies to play for Jamaica.

Ethan Pinnock, Michail Antonio and Demarai Gray have all signed up for the Jamaican national team.

When asked about the report ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Hodgson said “First of all, there has been to some truth in the story as it’s completely false – Tyrick Mitchell has got no interest in playing for Jamaica.

“Furthermore, he’s rather keen, if he could, to add to his caps. So he was absolutely, what’s the right word, to say the least surprised when a story of this nature comes up.

“I don’t really see a lot of point in me discussing it because as far as Tyrick and I are concerned, he’s still working hard for Crystal Palace, trying hard to get into Gareth Southgate’s good books. That’s the situation.”
