Cowley brothers will not pursue AFC Wimbledon managerial vacancy

AFC Wimbledon’s next permanent managerial appointment looks highly unlikely to be brothers Danny and Nicky Cowley.

The South London Press understands that the pair have spoken to the Dons, who are set to interview candidates this week, out of courtesy and respect for the League One club.

But the Cowleys are thought to be prepared to wait for another crack in the Championship or a club which has the potential to be at that level in the forseeable future.

Wimbledon recently parted company with Glyn Hodges and we reported that former Dons player Jason Euell and ex-Millwall midfielder Steven Reid were both interested in the vacancy.

But the Cowleys would also have been a popular appointment with the club’s fanbase after winning so many promotions at Lincoln City.

Mark Robinson is in interim charge and oversaw a 3-2 victory at Wigan Athletic on Saturday, a result which moved the Dons up to 19th in the standings.

Robinson is also believed to be in consideration for the vacancy.
