Cray Valley boss McKimm delighted to end winless run after victory at Potters Bar Town

Cray Valley strengthened their play-off position in the Isthmian League Premier Division after a 2-0 win at Potters Bar Town on Saturday.

Kiki Oshilaja and former AFC Wimbledon midfielder Tom Beere netted in the second half.

The Millers ended a six-game winless run to move seven points behind league leaders Billericay and five points clear inside the play-off pack.

“It was much-needed,” said boss Steve McKimm. “We have been scrambling around for the last month and a bit to try and get over the line.

“It was a scrappy game against a decent side.

“It was never going to be easy but we stuck to our guns. We came out in the second half and exploited space to take two fantastic goals.

“I’m very pleased for the players. The longer it goes on, they get more deflated. We kept spirits high, and the second half was more about what we were about.

“Everything is positive after today. Three points has been a long time coming for our fans and everyone at the club.

“Everybody wants to stop teams getting into the play-offs. We’re going to enjoy the three points because we have waited a long time. As long as we keep picking up points and getting to that end total to get into the play-offs, everybody is going to be happy.”

Cray have to play Dover Athletic and Hashtag United, both teams looking to secure a top five spot, before the end of the season.

“That win is such a relief for the players,” said McKimm.

“We can look forward to the next three points. We have eight games and we have to get as many points.

“We will see where that leaves us at the end of the season. I’m not interested in which teams can catch us or where we can catch people, I’m interested in us going out every Saturday and putting in a performance.

“These boys put a lot of work in. I’m not looking below or above, I’m looking at what Cray Valley can do between now and the end of the season.”
