Croydon Harriers pick up win in opening fixture of East Surrey Cross Country League season

Croydon Harriers comfortably won their opening match of the season in the East Surrey Cross Country League, writes Mike Fleet.

The club’s men were comfortably led home by individual winner Ben White, victorious in the seven-club competition, who romped home almost a minute clear of the field in 28:37.

He was ably supported in the scoring four by U20 Douglas Aikmann (fourth in 30:03), Scott Miller (fifth in 30:35) and David Brown (14th in 32:40).

Madeleine Armstrong Pleith was the first female Harriers’ finisher. The W40 athlete was seventh overall
U17 Kyron Bailee-Burke powered to a win in the young athletes race by 40 seconds with U15s Sean Leahy (14:51) and Ernesto Kelly (15:10) battling it out for second and third.
