Croydon Harriers: U17 girls are club’s best performers at South of England event

Croydon Harriers were in South of England cross-country relay action at Wormwood Scrubs on Saturday, writes Mike Fleet.

The club’s young athletes did best with their U17 girls finishing 10th  out of the 17 contesting teams.

Lead off runner Zoha Jetha set the club’s trio up well, completing leg one with their fastest leg of 11:47.9 in 11th spot. Holly Smith and Lucy Cole backed up well, gaining another place in the process.

The U17 men’s squad had a strong lead off runner too in Kyron-Bailee Burke, who clocked a brisk 10:00.8 coming home in 10th spot with team-mates Ollie Dixon and Noah Ralphs running strongly to take 14th position in the field of 23.

The Harriers’ men – respectfully a “C Team”  comprising James Moore, Abdul Ramaan Samad, Will Lyon-Tupman and Colin Oxlade – kept the Croydon flag flying in 40th, finishing ahead of six other teams.
