Croydon keep promotion dreams alive with win against Woking

Although these teams had already met three times this season, Croydon knew this was not going to be as easy as previous matches.

The Trams started well, with Megan Perkins looking very lively from the kick-off.

Some nice play and a ball into the box was dealt with well by the Cardinal keeper at the feet of the approaching Sarah Nicholson.

Nicholson was involved in the Trams’ next chance. Taking the ball in her stride on the left, she crossed into the Woking box.

It was cleared to the feet of Kacie Nadison Singh, who hit it first time on her left foot, and it flew inches wide.

The trams were pressing well, and a nice diamond move between Jarmily Arcanjo De Arcanjo, Siane Frances Duncan, and Nadison Singh found Nicholson, who turned outside and unleashed a curler with her right that went narrowly wide.

The Trams continued to dominate the first half with many more half-chances, but it was looking as if they were not going to break the deadlock.

However, before half time, Perkins flicked the ball to Duncan, her adversary got a touch, but the ball was lost to them both and fell kindly to Duncan with the keeper committed, and her shot blasted into the open net. 1-0

The Trams doubled their lead in the second half when a Woking free-kick was cleared to Nadison Singh, who hit a perfect 50-yard pass into the path of Licona to run behind the Woking defence. Licona executed a delightful chip over the Woking keeper and into the net. 2-0

The three points meant that Croydon leap-frogged Sutton into second place with just six games still to play.

Promotion dreams are still a possibility.
