Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira on handing senior debut to Tayo Adaramola
Patrick Vieira said that it was the “right time” to hand Tayo Adaramola his Crystal Palace debut in the 2-0 FA Cup win against League Two side Hartlepool United.
The academy graduate replaced Joel Ward in the 86th minute and slotted in at left-back.
Adaramola signed a professional contract with the Eagles in 2020.
Vieira has also handed Jesurun Rak-Sakyi his professional debut for the club in the 3-0 loss against Chelsea on the opening day of the season.
“He is a young player so full of energy,” said Vieira on the Republic of Ireland left-back, who has been capped at U19 level.
“He likes to go forward and has been doing well with the academy. Today was the right time to give him a couple of minutes, and he was close to scoring his first goal.
“Overall, he is a part of those young players where, if we work well with them and they are committed to the work ethic that we want to put into place, they will have a chance to fulfil their potential.”
Michael Olise was involved in both goals for the Eagles in their 2-0 win against League Two side Hartlepool United – setting up Marc Guehi for the opener and scoring the second with a left-footed shot just inside the area.
“When you looked at the last round, and today, he played well. He can score goals and create chances – he is a special talent,” said Vieira on Olise.
“He will improve, he will get better as a player, and his work ethic every day has been terrific since he has been at the football club.
“There is still a long way to go – he still needs to improve some parts of his game. But he is doing well – he is playing with a lot of confidence. His team-mates trust him to have the ball – that’s a good sign.
“He has to keep working and keep improving himself.”
