Crystal Palace cancel Roy Hodgson’s press conference – boss ‘taken ill during training’

Roy Hodgson’s pre-Everton press conference has been cancelled, with Crystal Palace announcing the 76-year-old was taken ill at the end of training.

The club announced the pre-match preview was off at 12.53pm.

Palace announced on social media this afternoon: “Today’s press conference will no longer take place as scheduled as Roy Hodgson was taken ill during this morning’s training session.”

The Eagles head to Everton on Monday evening.

It has been widespread reported that Hodgson was set to be relieved of his duties with Oliver Glasner set to take over as Palace boss.

Hodgson’s 200th match in charge of the Premier League club was Monday’s 3-1 defeat to Chelsea. Former Eagles loanee Conor Gallagher scored twice for the Blues, who overturned a 1-0 deficit at the break to collect maximum points.

Palace supporters have protested for change at recent matches – being critical of both the hugely experienced former England, Liverpool and Fulham manager as well as the club’s owners.

The Eagles are 15th in the top flight and five points ahead of Everton, who occupy the final relegation spot.

Hodgson returned for a second spell in charge when Patrick Vieira was sacked in March.

He produced an upturn in form – as well as coaxing the best out of the mercurial Eberechi Eze – as Palace went on to finish 11th last season.

Palace are in their 11th campaign as a Premier League club.
