Crystal Palace confirm Chelsea activate recall clause in defender’s loan deal

Crystal Palace have confirmed that Chelsea have recalled defender Trevoh Chalobah early from his season-long loan spell.

The 25-year-old made 14 appearances at Selhurst Park over his half-a-season spell on loan from Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have injury problems in defence, with Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile both sidelined.

Enzo Marseca is also open to allowing Axel Disasi to leave this winter.

Chalobah was blocked from playing in Palace’s third round FA Cup win over Stockport County due to a ‘contract issue’ according to Eagles boss Oliver Glasner.

The former Ipswich loanee was a key player under Glasner, forming one of the regular back three alongside Marc Guehi and Maxcence Lacroix.

Chalobah scored three goals during his time with the Eagles.

He has been reassured that he will play at Chelsea upon his return after having a conversation with sporting director Paul Winstanley before the option was exercised.
