Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi: I can shut out the transfer speculation noise

Marc Guehi says he can push speculation over his Crystal Palace future to one side as he gears up for Sunday’s Premier League opener at Brentford.

Newcastle United made a third bid for the England international, 24, believed to be £55m with an extra £5m in add ons, earlier this week.

But Eagles supremo Steve Parish is thought to want £70m for the former Chelsea defender.

Fulham have also bid for Guehi’s centre-back partner Joachim Andersen.

Guehi is ignoring the transfer talk surrounding himself. He told Sky Sports News: “I’ve been doing it my whole life really. I’ve never really been one to be looking too much into myself, if that makes sense.

“It’s always important to focus on what truly is important, and that’s the game at the weekend, making sure that for the rest of the season as a team we’re at it.”

Parish has said it will take “superstar money”  for a “superstar player” if they are to part with Guehi, who signed a five-year contract when he joined from the Blues in 2021.

Asked about Parish’s comments, Guehi said: “Humbled, humbled by that. For someone that is such a big part of this football club, for him to say something like that is amazing, for someone like me.

“I’m not sure I’m a superstar, but some really kind words from the chairman, so it’s really nice to hear that.”
