Crystal Palace handed Newcastle trip in EFL Cup while Charlton take on Steve Evans’ Stevenage
Crystal Palace and Charlton have both been handed away ties in the third round of the EFL Cup.
The draw was made last night after Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers, with former Millwall loanee Chris Wood scoring the goal which took the Toon through.
Palace, 2-0 victors at Oxford United on Tuesday evening, will face Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side next in one of a number of all-Premier League ties.
It is the first time the two clubs have faced each other away from the league since September 2014, when the Geordies were 3-2 winners in a League Cup fixture at Selhurst Park.
Charlton manager Ben Garner had been hoping for a big club – or a short away trip to a fellow London side. The Addicks head to League Two side Stevenage, managed by the combustible Steve Evans.
It will be only the fourth meeting of the two sides.
The Addicks thrashed Stevenage 8-0 in the EFL Trophy in October 2018, with defender Toby Stevenson scoring a hat-trick and Igor Vetokele helping himself to a couple of goals.
The fixtures do not take place until between the dates of November 8-10.
