Crystal Palace loanee Jes Rak-Sakyi explains how he remained focused when reports suggested his stay at Charlton could be cut short
Playing senior football week in, week out hasn’t been the only learning curve for Jes Rak-Sakyi this year.
The Crystal Palace youngster, on a season-long loan at South London rivals Charlton Athletic, found himself at the centre of attention throughout the January transfer window with reports suggesting his temporary stay at The Valley could be cut short.
The 20-year-old had to learn how to contend with rumours he had no control over whilst continuing his flying form in SE7.
Rak-Sakyi said: “It’s hard to hear all the noise but I just try to block it out and focus on where I’m at now, which is Charlton. I’m trying to give one hundred per cent for the team and the supporters.
“Mark [Bright, Palace loanee manager] has been helping me and advising me. Saying I should put my head down and work hard and the goals will come.
“It’s been good for me. Exposure to men’s’ football. I’m trying to improve every game and help the team as much as I can. I’m happy that the fans are able to support me. The players and the staff have been great as well.”
The wide man is Charlton’s top scorer for the campaign – but said Bright is ensuring his focus remains on the current season and not what next year may hold for him.
“[Bright] is just telling me to stay focused because he knows the quality I have,” added Rak-Sakyi.
“He wants me to keep learning and improving every game. Next season will take care of itself.”
