Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke hoping to spoil Ralf Rangnick’s Manchester United start

Christian Benteke believes that Crystal Palace will travel to Manchester United with a game plan to try and win the game.

The Eagles suffered their first back-to-back defeat under Patrick Vieira when they lost 1-0 at Leeds United on Tuesday night after conceding a last-minute penalty.

Ralf Rangnick was appointed Manchester United interim manager this week and will take charge of his first game against Palace.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford and how Palace deal with playing seven games in December, Benteke said: “We play against a top side – it won’t be easy. But we have done it in the past, then why not on Sunday again? We are going to go there with the aim to win this game.

“It will be important to bounce back to have a good result against United. But the most important thing is to be healthy and to have all of our players available for every game – in a short period of time, there are a lot of games to play. This period of time in England is quite important.”

The South Londoners had their opportunities to clinch all three points against Leeds on Tuesday evening, but it was Benteke himself who missed the most clear-cut chance – planting a header from six yards out wide of the goal.

Reflecting on the defeat, Benteke added: “It’s a Premier League game where every detail counts. We could have won the game, we could have drawn the game, but in the end, we lost it. It’s a frustrating result for us.”
