Crystal Palace Women release six players after WSL promotion

Crystal Palace Women have released six players following promotion to the Super League.

The most notable departure from Laura Kaminski’s squad is club captain Annabel Johnson.

Johnson moved to Palace from London Bees and was named skipper at the end of the 2019-20 season. She captained Palace to back-to-back top-five finishes in the Women’s Championship in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Johnson is the club’s all-time top appearance maker of the professional era, playing 86 times in all competitions.

She penned a message on her X account following the announcement: “What an insane five years full of amazing memories and people.

“Being the captain was one of my proudest moments and I’m grateful for all the girls support in helping move the club forward.

“I can’t wait to watch Palace in the WSL and I wish the girls & club the best of luck.”

Polly Doran, Anna Filbey, Shauna Guyatt, Natalia Negri and Ellie Noble will all leave the Eagles this summer.

Doran signedin the summer of 2022 from Melbourne Victory. The Australian defender saw her playing time in the second half of the 2023-24 season limited due to injury.

Wales international Filbey made 44 appearances across two seasons for the South Londoners.

Guyatt joined Palace from Chelsea’s academy and featured 23 times under Kaminski.

Loanees Demi Lambourne, Ria Percival, Lexi Potter, Araya Dennis, Lucy Watson and Keira Barry will be returning to their parent clubs.

Goalkeeper Lambourne made 19 appearances for the title-winning side and kept four clean sheets in their final five Championship outings.

Spurs loanee Percival told our paper after the Eagles claimed the Championship title that she would like to permanently join Palace.

Laura Kaminski has been named Women’s Championship Manager of the Season by the League Managers’ Association on Tuesday evening.

Kaminski joined from South London rivals Charlton and guided Palace to the Championship title – and a first-ever promotion to the top flight – in her first season in charge.

Her side scored 55 goals in their 22 league matches and won the league one point ahead of the Addicks.
