“Daft” – Ben Amos quick to shift praise on to team-mates for his League One Player of the Month award
Ben Amos has been quick to praise his Charlton Athletic team-mates after he collected October’s League One Player of the Month.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper kept six clean sheets in that period.
Amos had not been beaten for more than nine hours before the 3-2 win over Fleetwood Town in the Addicks’ last league action.
“You can’t keep clean sheets on your own,” said the former Bolton and Manchester United man, promoted to number one choice between the posts before the campaign started.
“You need everyone from the front players to the boys at the back. It is testament to them. It seems kind of daft – one player getting it – when there was all that effort from everyone over the past few weeks to get those clean sheets.
“I’m pleased [to be first choice] but for me it’s just doing my best. I just want the team to do well and get promoted. I think we’ve got the capability of doing that. As long as I feel I’m doing my best and the team is achieving its goals then I’m happy.”
Charlton do not have a fixture this weekend due to international call ups.
They have won their last six League One matches and are third in the early standings.
“It [the break] might have even come at a bad time because we had such good momentum,” Amos told the club’s official website. “But the lads will hopefully get a lot of freshness.
“It’s taken a lot out of the team to put those performances in Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday. Hopefully we come back fresher and pick up where we left off.”
