Daniel Dubois could be set for world title crack against Oleksandr Usyk if he takes out Joe Joyce

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Daniel Dubois looks to become European heavyweight champion tomorrow night – and victory over Joe Joyce could propel him into a clash with Oleksandr Usyk for the WBO world title in 2021.

The explosive 23-year-old from Greenwich is facing a major test as he clashes with former Earlsfield ABC man Joyce. Both men are unbeaten and big punchers. The event in Westminster is live on BT Sport.

There is a chance that Anthony Joshua will relinquish or be stripped of his WBO crown if he goes into a huge domestic showdown with Tyson Fury next year rather than face mandatory challenger Usyk.

Dubois, who has won 14 of his 15 bouts inside the distance, is ranked number two by the boxing organisation. Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua, mooted the Usyk fight even though he feels the winner of Dubois-Joyce is not ready for world title level yet.

He said:“They need to rack up a few more wins on their resume, although the winner could end up fighting Usyk for the vacant title.”
