Daniel Dubois’ title shot against Oleksandr Usyk gets new date

Daniel Dubois’ crack at unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has been moved to August 26 so that it can be nearer to Ukraine’s independence day.

Initially the bout had been scheduled for August 12 with Usyk’s promoter Alexander Krassyuk winning the purse bid to stage it.

Greenwich’s Dubois, the mandatory challenger for Usyk’s WBA title, will look to cause an upset in Wroclaw, Poland.

Krassyuk told TVP Sport: “Wroclaw is home to many Ukrainians.

“The fight will take place at the stadium for 24,000 people. We had to change the date from August 12 to August 26. Because it is Ukraine’s independence day (on August 24). It’s the perfect date to set up a fight with Dubois. We couldn’t waste it.”

Dubois, 25, recently jettisoned trainer Shane McGuigan to link up with Don Charles.

He has won 19 of his 20 professional bouts – 18 of them by stoppage – but has shown worrying signs of vulnerability in some of his recent outings.

IBF, WBA and WBO king Usyk had been seeking an undisputed clash with Tyson Fury – with the winner collecting all the belts – but an agreement failed to be thrashed out.
