Daniel Dubois wins British title with impressive display of power against Nathan Gorman

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Daniel Dubois is the new British heavyweight champion after a fifth-round knockout of Nathan Gorman at the 02 Arena.

The 21-year-old from Greenwich was fighting on home turf and turned in one of the most impressive displays of his fledgling career.

Gorman was knocked down in the third round but beat the count.

Dubois also inflicted a deep cut above his left eye in the second round.

The South Londoner was clinical and there were only a few occasions where he was forced into more wild trades with his opponent, who seemed to be rattled or hurt on a number of occasions.

The end came in the fifth. Gorman was not throwing much back and it just seemed a matter of time before his opponent found the punch to end it.

Another big right towards the rear of the head dropped the Nantwich man on his back near the ropes and although he managed to climb back to his feet referee Victor Loughlin had seen enough and waved the contest over.

It was an 11th stoppage win for Dubois, who moves to 12-0 in the paid ranks. Gorman lost for the first time in 17 bouts.
