Daniel Kanu: Point at Bolton has to be a springboard for 15-winless Charlton Athletic
Charlton striker Daniel Kanu hopes the point at Bolton Wanderers is something the side can build upon.
The South Londoners recovered from going behind early before twice holding the lead in a six-goal thriller in Greater Manchester.
Kanu opened a 3-2 lead for the visitors just beyond the hour-mark – grabbing his ninth goal of the season in all competitions for both the Addicks and National League outfit Southend where he was on loan earlier this campaign.
The South Londoners are now 15 winless in League One and still hover dangerously over the drop zone but Kanu insists the point at promotion-chasing Wanderers can be a springboard.
“Bolton are very high up in the table. We haven’t had the season that we’ve wanted. We came here today knowing that we have to work hard, and we did that. We knew if we did work hard our qualities will come through and they did in moments. All in all, it’s a strong point. Two unbeaten now. It’s a good point to push on to next week.
“There’s always frustration because we know how good we are and how good we can be. It is a bit frustrating but at the same time we did come back twice as well. It’s a hard one. Looking at how much possession they had and how much pressure they out us under I think it’s a fair result.
“When you come to places like this, especially with the run that we’re in, a lot of people would say damage limitation. We got at them. We showed a lot of heart, desire and character to score three goals against a side at the top of the league. It was something to be proud of. We have a lot to work on but it’s something we can be proud of and continue and push forward and progress with.”
