Dartford 0 Millwall 5 – Lions make impressive start to pre-season programme
Millwall breezed to a 5-0 win over Dartford to kick off their pre-season programme in emphatic fashion.
Jed Wallace was unlucky not to walk away with a hat-trick at Princes Park as he saw his penalty saved to deny him a treble.
The winger took just 90 seconds to open his account with a free-kick curled over the Darts wall to put the Lions ahead after Aiden O’Brien had been fouled on the edge of the box.
Dartford keeper Deren Ibrahim made a good save initially to deny Wallace for the second goal but he reacted quickly to tuck away the rebound just past the hour mark.
It was 3-0 on 34 minutes. Shaun Williams was fouled and his free-kick was perfectly placed for O’Brien to head home.
A minute later and Mahlon Romeo extended the visitors’ advantage. The right-back cut inside and dispatched a perfect strike across Ibrahim.
The Lions had a fifth a minute before the break. Fred Onyedinma was fouled inside the box but Ibrahim denied Wallace from the penalty – making an equally impressive stop from the follow up by the taker – before Steve Morison drove home at the third attempt.
Millwall also handed a start to trialist Lazar Stojsavljevic, the young Woking defender playing the opening 45 minutes.
And there was also a welcome playing return for fellow centre-back Byron Webster, who had been missing following a serious knee injury. He skippered the Lions in the second half – with boss Neil Harris opting to change all 11 of his side at the break.
