Day nine round-up: Britain’s Cameron Norrie reaches Wimbledon semi-final

Britain has a semi-finalist in the men’s draw at Wimbledon this year after Cameron Norrie overcame Belgium’s David Goffin in five pulsating sets on No.1 Court.

Norrie will face Novak Djokovic on Centre Court in Friday’s semi-final after twice recovering from a set down – beating Goffin 3-6, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.

In his on-court interview after the match, Norrie said: “It wasn’t going my way at the beginning.

“David was moving me and I couldn’t find my game, but thanks to you guys I managed to stay as patient as I could.

“I used my adrenaline at the end and just tried to put the ball in the court. It’s just good to get over the line.”

Six-time champion Novak Djokovic produced some scintillating tennis to come from two sets down to beat the exciting Jannik Sinner.

Sinner looked on course for a shock victory after taking a 7-6, 6-2 lead in Centre Court’s opening match, but the Serb produced some imperious tennis to respond, taking the next three sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

Afterwards Djokovic said: “He was a better player for two sets. I went out, had a refreshment and a toilet break and gave myself a little pep talk in the mirror.

“Sometimes, when not much is happening positively for you, these things are necessary – a little talk. I needed to re-gather my thoughts and come at my opponent with my best game.

“I was fortunate to start the third set well. I saw a bit of doubt in his movement and I guess the experience of playing on this stage many times helped me cope.”

Tunisian Ons Jabeur is through to the semi-final of the women’s draw after beating Czech player Marie Bouzkova on Centre Court.

Jabeur, the number 3 seed and favourite now for the women’s title, was forced to come from a set down to beat Bouzkova 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Jabeur will play Tatjana Maria in the semi-final, who beat Jule Niemeier in three sets after a fantastic battle on No.1 Court. For the full report on that one see here.
