Defender turns down new Bromley contract offer to join League Two side

Omar Sowunmi has turned down a new deal at Bromley and joined League Two side Sutton United on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old made 38 appearances in the National League last season for the Raves, picking up the Players’ Player and Manager’s Player of the Season awards at the end of the campaign.

Former Colchester and Yeovil Town defender Sowunmi joined Bromley in August 2021 and made 70 appearances – scoring 10 goals – during his two-season stint at Hayes Lane.

After Sowunmi’s departure was confirmed, assistant manager Alan Dunne said: “I was fortunate enough to work with Omar closely. We knew straight away that he had the attributes to go straight back into the EFL.

“He’s had a phenomenal season for us and he was a pleasure to work with. I’d like to wish him all the success for the future.”
