‘Definitely controversial’ – Wycombe boss unhappy with Charlton’s first and third goal as unbeaten run ends
Wycome Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield had gripes after watching his side lose 3-1 at Charlton Athletic today.
The Chairboys came into the contest with the joint second-best form over the past six League One matches, taking 13 points from a five-game unbeaten streak.
But Miles Leaburn, Slobodan Tedic and Corey Blackett-Taylor scored for the Addicks.
Freddie Potts had equalised early in the second half with a clean volley from the edge of the penalty area.
Wycombe had only one strike on target although experienced striker Sam Vokes also saw a header come back off the crossbar just before half time.
Bloomfield was asked about being unhappy with both Charlton’s first and third goals and described them as “definitely controversial”.

“We were the ones in the ascendency,” he said. “It looked like there was only one team going to go and win the game – fortunately that wasn’t to be.
“I’m so proud of the way the boys conducted themselves in the second half. I felt we were below-par first half and lacked that energy and drive.
“Even before Freddie’s goal we were in the ascendency that was just a reward for what we were doing. We created so many opportunities to go and get the second goal but we were caught by a sucker punch. It’s the second time Tedic has done that to us after his goal for Barnsley last year.
“I have to talk about my team and about the way we passed the ball, played attacking football and rolled into wide positions to try and get crossing opportunities – it’s a real tough one to take because we deserved to get something and we didn’t. We need to not let this affect our belief.
“It’s about us sticking to what we believe in. I’m not going to make any bold predictions because this is a really tough league. We’ve come away to a really big football club with a big following and massive budget – unfortunately there were some decisions that went against us today, which is really unfortunate for us.
“We have to watch the game back with unemotional eyes. It wasn’t a perfect performance because if it was then we’d have kept a clean sheet and won the game. We have to look at ourselves first. Is there anything we could’ve done differently but my immediate reaction is pride at how we’ve played.”
